NIRS / fNIRS Devices
Optical oximetry, specifically Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS), is an essential tool for continuously evaluating the oxygenation status and hemodynamics of various organs, such as the brain and muscular tissue.
Because body cells rely on a constant supply of oxygen and tissue reserves are minimal, any disturbance in oxygenation can directly impact cellular function. NIRS and fNIRS devices allow researchers to monitor these dynamic changes non-invasively and in real time.
This technology relies on the relative transparency of human tissue to near-infrared light and the oxygenation-dependent light absorption properties of hemoglobin. By using multiple wavelengths, these systems continuously track relative changes in oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin concentrations, providing high temporal resolution for clinical and academic research.
